Glen I think someone modified your case to accept some sort of seal retainer. The pic you have looks just like my 320-no suffix, and I don't have any of the holes you have. I bought a flying RV-6A with a Lycoming 360 A1A about 3 1/2 years ago. 6 months after I bought it; the engine developed an oil leak through the front crank seal. B. Remove spring from oil seal assembly and unhook its ends. Coat the lip of the seal liberally with SAE 50 engine oil or a molyshield grease. Twist the seal and slide it over the crankshaft with the felt side toward the flange. (If the seal does not incorporate a felt, just place the seal on the shaft with its recessed side toward the rear.)
